Community is everything. Connecting with people from different cultures expands your worldview in ways you can’t learn from books

Q: What are the biggest challenges of being a digital nomad?

Selina: One of the hardest parts of the digital nomad lifestyle is forming meaningful friendships in new places, only to have people move on quickly. Everyone’s on a different journey, and just when you feel deeply connected, someone leaves,  and it’s back to square one. It’s both beautiful and bittersweet.

Q: How would you describe your experience at Outpost?

Selina: My time at Outpost Bali has been absolutely amazing. I love the sense of community, from the twice-weekly lunches to the First Friday parties that always bring great energy. But what truly makes it special is the staff. Every morning, I’m greeted with such warmth, it genuinely sets a positive tone for the rest of my day.

Q: How important is the community aspect in your digital nomad life?

Selina: Community is everything. Being a remote worker can be isolating, but connecting with others — sharing stories, building friendships across cultures, has expanded my worldview in ways I never imagined. It’s an experience I believe everyone should have at least once in their life.

Q: What are the main countries you’ve worked from? Do you have plans to settle down in one place in the future?

Selina: Other than the Netherlands, I’ve primarily worked remotely from Indonesia, especially Bali. I’ve traveled a lot as a backpacker, but work-wise it’s mostly been here. I don’t plan to settle down anytime soon. I really value the freedom that comes with being location-independent.
